Geology of the Black Hills and the Verde Valley
Hal Hatfield

Clarkdale Historical Society and Museum is pleased to present "First Friday In Their Own Words" on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clark Memorial Clubhouse Auditorium located at 910 N. 19th St. in Clarkdale.

The speaker Hal Hatfield will discuss, as non-technical as possible, the history of the geological formations that make up the Black Hills and the Verde Valley; including the formation of the copper ore bodies of Jerome; the geologic formations that developed over the ore bodies; and the volcanics that covered everything.

Rock samples will be provided to show what the different geologic formations look like. A retired professional geologist with two degrees in geology, he spent over 35 years as an environmental geologist. Hal currently volunteers at the Jerome State Historic Park as an interpreter of Verde Valley geology, mining, and history.

This is a 1-hour presentation that is free to the public, though donations are gratefully accepted
